Photo Diary Sheet 24 · Roll 07 · May 2026

This is the working roll for May. Three frames from a longer set — a tree, a noticeboard, a planter under construction — with notes from the residents' working party between them. None of this is final. We re-shoot every month.

The west tree, south footway. First of five going in this autumn. The shadow falls on the pavement by mid-afternoon. We've measured.

Already agreed

Items now settled.

  1. A 20 mph entry zone at both ends of the street, signed and surface-marked.
  2. Footway repairs along the south pavement, completed March 2026.
  3. Annual residents' meet confirmed for the evening of 7 June 2026.
The board at no. 14, midday. Five posters this week. The fete poster has been up the longest. The lost-cat one is fresh.
"A noticeboard is the slowest, most democratic media we still have. Anyone can put something up. Nothing scrolls." — from the May residents' meet

In motion this year

What's being worked on now.

  1. Five new street trees, south footway, target planting October 2026.
  2. Three volunteer-built planters, north footway, workday to be confirmed.
  3. A new noticeboard on the south-side wall, pending permission from the freeholder.
Planter P2 going up, March workday. Five volunteers, two mornings, reclaimed timber from the carpenter on Mill Lane. Topsoil came from the allotments.

Open questions

Still being talked out.

  1. Bench placement — between the trees, or nearer the noticeboard?
  2. Planting day — a single Saturday in October, or split across two weekends?
  3. Should we apply for a Play Street day in summer 2027?
